Placement Assistance

The Creative Center will assist students in their job search but cannot guarantee placement. Students are welcome and encouraged to seek assistance in their job search after graduation. The Career Services department has many contacts with companies related to the graphic design field and can also help students make contact with companies across the country. Employers often approach the Creative Center in order to interview students. Also, other job opportunities will be posted at the Creative Center as they become available.

By the end of the second year, contacts may have already been established with potential employers through visiting instructors, guest speakers and on-staff professionals. “Meet the Pros,” a local yearly event, gives second- and third-year students an opportunity to show their portfolios to employers city-wide and tour local related businesses. The Creative Center also hosts an annual “Portfolio Review Night” for the second- and third-year students to have their portfolios reviewed and critiqued by creative professionals. The 20-30 pros that attend this event are members of our Program Advisory Committee as well as business owners, managers, creative directors, art directors, designers and writers from the design community. Some students have been offered job interviews from the contacts made at these events.

In several courses throughout both degree programs, students also create résumés and cover letters and discuss interviewing techniques at great length. During their fourth semester, students partake in “on-campus interviews” with local creative professionals in preparation for job hunting.

Professional Endorsements

We love getting compliments, and we love telling prospective students about the compliments we get! Here are some of our favorites:

“I spent the last 15 years in the graphic design industry before moving, so I know first hand the frustration of having to “retrain” recent grads because their instructors had little or no real-world experience.

Kudos to you and your staff for providing a much-needed service in Nebraska.”
Shannon Barry, Mutual of Omaha, Omaha, NE

“I am impressed with the facilities and the talent displayed at the Creative Center. Many of the students are well on their way to becoming art directors.

I have referred the Creative Center to other companies looking for creative talent.”
C.W. Westin, Westin Foods, Omaha, NE

“As a creative director, I have been viewing student portfolios for over 15 years. I’ve seen books from every major college and university in the Midwest, as well as portfolios from technical and professional schools from around the nation.

While the individual talents of each student obviously vary, I’ve generally found portfolios from students of the Creative Center to be solid, well-rounded and professional. This is also the consensus of my peers in the industry.”
Mark Carpenter, SKAR Advertising, Omaha, NE

“As a business owner of an advertising agency for years and part-time instructor at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, I can certainly attest to the fact that the Creative Center students were really a “cut above” in design capabilities by the time they graduated.” Gary Koenig, Koenig Marketing, Inc., Omaha, NE
